Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Public Works leads and oversees all aspects of public works operations, infrastructure, and community services for the Lac Seul First Nation. This includes the strategic planning, management, and maintenance of community facilities, water, and wastewater systems, roads, and other essential infrastructure. The Director will ensure that all services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable regulations, while supporting the long-term growth and sustainability of the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Public Works Department, including the water treatment plant operators.
- Plan, direct, and oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water systems, and sanitation services.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Oversee and manage personnel within the department, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Coordinate with other departments and external agencies on infrastructure projects and First Nation initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate public works operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to best practices.
- Respond to membership inquiries and concerns regarding the First Nation’s infrastructure and services.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for community members regarding public works issues, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Advocate for funding opportunities and partnerships to support public works initiatives.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 4-years experience in leadership roles with responsibility for budgeting, project management, and staff supervision.
- Experience working in or with indigenous communities is an asset.
- Strong understanding of public works operations, including water and wastewater systems, roads, and facilities management.
- Skilled in developing and managing multiple priorities and challenges.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and efficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.
- High level of Integrity, accountability, and commitment to community service.
- Must provide a clear original Criminal Record Certificate and a Vulnerable Sector Check Certificate that is current. (30 days).
- Valid Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle.
- Must provide a Clean Driver’s abstract.
- Valid Social Insurance Number and legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Compliance with the community’s policies, safety standards, and confidentiality requirements.
LOCATION: Lac Seul, ON.
SALARY: Wages start at $44.98/hour *based on qualifications and experience.
TERM: Full-time
HOURS: 35 hours per week
