Summary:
Lac Seul First Nation requires a Director of Lands and Resources who reports to the Chief Operations Officer with the Senior Management Team. The Director will plan, organize and evaluate the overall management of Reserve Lands and Environment Management for the Lac Seul First Nation. Develop and administer laws and policies related to land administration, land and resource management, land use planning, environmental management, fisheries and land development. Maintains relationships and open communications with the organization and membership; and maintains strict confidentiality of community lands records information.
Duties:
- Participates in environmental monitoring of reserve lands and traditional territory lands.
- Carries out duties in respect of Lac Seul residential interests.
- Carries out duties in respect of applications and orders for exclusive possession of family homes held as residential interests.
- Coordinates and manages information gathering and research on interests and values within the Lac Seul territory, including archaeology, surveys, and traditional use studies.
- Manages of natural resource harvesting, including traditional medicine and wild rice.
- Prepares recommendations on fisheries and wildlife matters for any harvesting plans.
- Must direct studies or other activities to reviewed by Senior Management or Council approval.
- Plans, researches and investigates matters relating to the environment.
- Develops policies for the management, protection and use of the environment.
- Organizes and facilitates community consultations and workshops.
- Advocates views and recommendations as a representative on various groups.
- When requested, prepare and present information at Council meetings, forums, conferences, and other functions.
- Collaboratively develops land management as well as related aspects of land management systems and framework.
- Responds to consultation request from Federal and provincial/ territorial government proposed legislative amendments.
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in one or more of the following: Natural or Renewable Resources Management, Land Management, Environmental Activities or related program and/or experience.
- Minimum 4 years experience in a management position, preferably Land Management.
- A valid Social Insurance Number and legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract.
- Must provide a clear original Criminal Record Certificate and a Vulnerable Sector Check Certificate that is current. (30 days).
Location: Lac Seul First Nation, ON
Rate: Wages start at $44.98/hr *based on qualifications and experience.
Term: Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week
